A daily dose of hope: With fentanyl deadlier than ever, Syracuse fights back one life at a time

Syracuse, NY – Every morning, starting at 5:30 a.m., more than 700 people make a daily trek to Erie Boulevard East for the medicine that keeps them alive.

Some, like nurses or construction workers, wake up as early as 3:30 a.m. to get in line before their workday. Others drive an hour from Madison or Cayuga counties. Over time, some move closer to Syracuse to shorten the trip. Parents leave sleeping children at daycare or with loved ones before sunrise to make it before the doors close at 10:30 a.m. Some bring along a groggy toddler.
