Alan Shearer slams disallowed Bournemouth goal against Newcastle

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has claimed his former side secured a 'lucky point' after an 'awful decision' to rule out a late Bournemouth goal.

Bournemouth appeared to have retaken the lead in stoppage time, after Anthony Gordon had cancelled out Marcus Tavernier's first half opener.

Dango Ouattara turned in a Bournemouth corner in the 93rd minute, before the goal was subject to a VAR check.

The effort was ruled out with Ouattara adjudged to have handled to send the ball into the Newcastle net, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was among those to protest against the decision, which leaves his side still awaiting a first win of the season.

A member of Bournemouth's coaching staff was shown a red card by referee David Coote over his protests against the decision.

Shearer was among those to criticise the decision to rule out Bournemouth's last strike.

'A lucky point as that’s an awful decision re hand ball. Never hand ball for me,' Shearer wrote.

Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Jamie Redknapp said he could understand Iraola's frustration at seeing the late goal ruled out.

'I don't think it's conclusive enough, I feel the manager's pain,' Redknapp said.

'It looks more like shoulder to me. None of the Newcastle players complained either.

Redknapp's fellow pundit Izzy Christiansen suggested the goal should have stood, claiming the ball had gone into the net off Ouattara's shoulder.

'I think it's the shoulder, I think that goal should stand,' Christiansen said.

The Premier League Match Centre's update on the decision stated: 'Ouattara’s goal is awarded on-field.

'The VAR overturned the decision as they deemed it to be a factual handball by Ouattara, therefore an on-field review was not required and the goal was disallowed.'
