Apple's iPhone 16 Event Invites Are Here: What We Could See on Sept. 9

Apple on Monday sent out invites for its annual fall iPhone launch event, this one for the anticipated iPhone 16. The event takes place Monday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. BST, 3 a.m. AEST). The invite shows the Apple logo with different overlapping colors around it, with the text "It's Glowtime" underneath.

The invite calls back to the one sent out for Apple's last big event, WWDC, in June. That invite showed multicolored circles, hinting at its big Siri update, as well as a handful of other AI-powered upgrades. It's possible we could hear more about AI improvements across Apple's products and services on Sept. 9, and also see the introduction of Apple's latest Watch series, which could be dubbed the Apple Watch 10 or X (to match the naming convention of the iPhone X in 2017). The company could also debut new AirPods. And, of course, we expect to learn about the latest iPhone lineup.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 16 could include camera improvements like larger image sensors and a new physical camera button. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus might feature cameras that are vertically stacked, instead of horizontally. Some models could also have thinner bezels, and therefore larger screens. All four iPhone 16 models may get a next-generation Apple chipset with the A18 branding, with Pro iPhone models packing a more powerful A18 Bionic Pro and base models getting a regular A18. Along with a new iPhone series, we anticipate updates on Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of AI features that it unveiled at WWDC. It includes capabilities like a smarter Siri, AI-powered writing tools and ChatGPT integration. We also expect to learn more about the public rollout of iOS 18 later this fall. The new operating system includes new features like customizable home and lock screens, and updated Control Center and RCS messaging.

Come Sept. 9, CNET's reporters will be on the ground bringing you all the latest updates from Cupertino, California.
