Arsenal remain in talks to sign Euro 2024 winner

Arsenal remain discussions over a deal for Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino.

Merino, 28, was a member of the Spain side which won the Euros this summer and the Gunners are keen to bring him to England.

It is thought Arsenal's interest in the Spanish star pre-dates the tournament in Germany.

The midfielder featured in all seven of his country's matches at Euro 2024, mostly from the bench, and scored the winner in extra time against the hosts in the quarter-finals.

Should a deal materialise for the player, who as been a steady figure for Real Sociedad in his last six seasons and is a former team-mate of Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, he would become Mikel Arteta's second signing of the summer.

A Euro 2024 winner could be heading to Arsenal this summer as the club seek further arrivals

Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, who also starred during the Euros, signed for £42m and has joined his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of the United States.

The Gunners are also holding out for £30m for striker Eddie Nketiah after rejecting Marseille’s last offer of around £23m last week.
