Brentford 'prepared to cut Toney's asking price by more than £30m'

Brentford are reportedly willing to accept less than £50million for Ivan Toney because only two clubs are interested in the striker.

Toney stated his desire to join a 'top club that wins trophies' but his options are thinning after Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United all pulled out.

United have this week unveiled striker Joshua Zirkzee, formerly of Bologna, as their first signing of the summer for £36.5m so do not need another option there.

Brentford were holding out for £80m in January - with some reports putting that asking price as high as £100m - but he had only just returned from an eight-month gambling ban.

After a haul of four goals in 17 games in the second half of the season, only Tottenham and West Ham are his likely suitors, as per The Sun

Brentford are reportedly willing to accept £50million for Ivan Toney though they originally wanted £80m or even £100m

Tottenham and West Ham are said to be the only two clubs who are still interested in him

Arsenal are not making striker a priority position in the transfer market while the youthfully exuberant Chelsea reportedly deem Toney, 28, to be too old.

Igor Thiago has this month joined Brentford from Club Brugge after the Bees agreed a club-record £31m fee for him in February.

Thiago scored 29 goals in all competitions for the Belgian champions this season and is seen as a successor to Toney after his four years in west London.

Toney only has a year left on his deal at the Gtech Community Stadium.

He has already proven that he can be a prolific goalscorer at this level as he scored 20 goals in the Premier League in 2022-23.

Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane bettered that total and it was the season that truly alerted the top sides to his potential among the elite.

If Tottenham were to sign Toney, it would likely be contingent on them selling Richarlison.

Mail Sport revealed in May that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal were plotting a shock swoop for the Brazilian and made enquiries about him as early as January.

The Saudi champions, for whom his countryman Neymar plays, have been privately confident that they can sign him.

Spurs have also shown interest in Lille's £25m-rated Jonathan David while West Ham could move for the Canadian.
