Brooklyn Bedding is one of my personal favorite mattress brands and one of the biggest reasons for this is its beds are high quality and affordable which makes a bed like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature such an incredible value.

The Sedona Elite is the mattress from the brand designed to be as luxurious as possible and its construction is actually a pretty significant departure from the Signature mattress and the Aurora Luxe mattress and could be a great option for someone who wants something luxurious but also a bit different than most other pillow top style mattresses.

First impressions of the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite mattress

After initially unboxing the Sedona Elite mattress, myself and the rest of the team were immediately impressed with the look of the bed. Mattress aesthetics is not something we talk about much because how a mattress looks is much less important than how it feels and its firmness profile, and most people only see what their mattress looks like when changing their sheets -- but the Sedona Elite just looks luxurious.

When we first started testing the mattress in earnest, the feel threw us for a bit of a loop because it was quite a bit different than other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses we had previously tested. The bed has a memory foam quality, and once I learned more about the construction elements of the Sedona Elite that made a lot more sense.

My overall first impression of the Sedona Elite was very positive, but I also thought that many sleepers still might prefer the Aurora Luxe for a lower price.

Is the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite mattress right for you?

For anyone looking for a luxurious, pillow-top style mattress with a unique, memory foam type feel, I think the Sedona Elite is an excellent choice.

It scores well in performance with edge support, motion isolation and temperature regulation thanks to its reinforced perimeter coils, cooling cover and the inclusion of microcoils in its construction. Microcoils are not a common mattress construction material and they have some unique characteristics we'll go through at length in this review.

This factor, along with the Sedona Elite's accommodating firmness profile, makes the mattress an excellent option for couples and singles.

The price point is higher than most beds from Brooklyn Bedding but I would describe the Sedona Elite as the most noticeably luxurious of its lineup.

Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite firmness and feel

Sedona Elite feel

The feel of the Sedona Elite is not the typical pillow top feel I usually observe from beds with a similar design like the Winkbed, the Saatva Classic and the Nolah Evolution.

More classic pillow top beds don't have a memory foam quality, but the Sedona Elite does while also being highly responsive. Traditional memory foam beds like Tempur-Pedic have low responsiveness, which means the foam will take a significant amount of time to snap back into its original shape. Some sleepers really enjoy this because it can deter frequent tossing and turning at night, but others dislike it because it makes them feel "stuck" in the mattress.

On the Sedona Elite, you will get the body-conforming quality of a memory foam mattress but without the "stuck" feeling that some sleepers report on classic memory foam, so it is almost like getting the best of both worlds. I think the majority of people who try the Sedona Elite will find it to be very comfortable and accommodating, although I think the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe would be a "safer" choice in terms of feel because it doesn't feel like memory foam at all.

Sedona Elite Hybrid firmness

Unlike many other mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding like the Aurora Luxe and the Signature, the Sedona Elite only comes in one firmness profile and in our testing we found it to be a flat medium on our firmness scale, which is also what Brooklyn Bedding says it is.

A medium firmness profile like this works for all sleeping positions pretty equally and is ideal for combination sleepers who might spend part of the night on their side and then switch to their back and for couples who may have different firmness preferences and want something they can agree on.

A medium firmness isn't necessarily the ideal option for any one specific sleeping position -- people who sleep exclusively on their back will likely want something firmer than a medium, and some strict side sleepers may prefer something softer, but most people either really enjoy a medium firmness profile or can at least get by on it.

Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite construction

The construction of the Sedona Elite begins with a thin layer of dense support foam to provide a stable base for the main support layer, an eight-inch-thick layer of pocketed coils.

I was actually able to take a tour of the 3Z Brands mattress factory, where the Sedona Elite is made, and see how these coils get made. A steel wire gets fed into a machine that forms it into coils and then gets wrapped in fabric. Pocketed coils provide the same level of bounce and support as old innerspring chassis while being much better at isolating cross-mattress motion.

Above the coil layer is a thin layer of responsive foam that functions as a transition layer. Most mattresses we test have a foam layer between the main comfort layer(s) and the support layer, whether the support layer is foam or coils.

Above the transition foam is where it gets more interesting - - the Sedona Elite features a two-and-a-half-inch-thick layer of microcoils. We have seen microcoils in a handful of mattresses like the Leesa Legend, Leesa Legend Chill and the Saatva Rx, in our experience, microcoils behave similarly to memory foam in terms of body conforming feel but are also very responsive.

Right above the microcoil layer is a layer of actual memory foam and the two layers together, along with the support coils and transition foam add up to give the Sedona Elite that unique, responsive memory foam type of feel.

Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite performance

Edge support

The edge support of a mattress refers to how well the perimeter of the bed holds up under pressure. If a mattress has poor edge support, if you end up sleeping near the perimeter it can feel like you are going to roll off the mattress and negatively impact your sleep.

Fortunately the edge support on the Sedona Elite is excellent. I think the coils on the perimeter are reinforced with extra thick gauge wire so if you happen to sleep on the edge of the mattress it should not impact your sleep which is great news for couples.

Motion isolation

Motion isolation is another factor important for couples because a bed with poor motion isolation can wake you up if your partner tosses and turns throughout the night.

In our testing, we found the Sedona Elite to be one of the best performing hybrid mattresses at isolating cross-mattress motion, due to the memory foam and microcoil layers. We have found that microcoils, despite being responsive, do an excellent job at isolation motion and with the memory foam layer on top the Sedona Elite should work well for light sleepers who wake up easily.

Temperature regulation

Like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe, the Sedona Elite has a cool to the touch cover that helps hot sleepers sleep cool throughout the night. I think the Aurora Luxe has a stronger cooling factor -- but the Sedona's is definitely noticeable. One of my teammates slept on the Sedona Elite for several months and he thought the bed slept cool, although he didn't like the texture of the cover.

Cooling covers like these have a somewhat slick texture, which some people don't enjoy, but I think if you are a hot sleeper, the tradeoff is well worth it.

The Sedona Elite is the most expensive mattress from Brooklyn Bedding that you can buy online. Fun fact, there is a different version of the Sedona that is only available at brick and mortar stores in Phoenix because it is too heavy to ship in a box.

The Sedona Elite is on par with other quality hybrid beds like the Purple Restore Hybrid and the Leesa Legend Chill and it is usually discounted a significant amount throughout the year.

Brooklyn Bedding mattress policies

Free shipping

Like most online mattresses, this will ship right to your door at no extra cost inside of a large box (as long as you live in the contiguous United States). If you live in Canada, you can still get it shipped to you, but there will be an additional cost involved depending on where you live.

Unboxing a mattress usually only takes a few minutes, and we recommend unboxing it with a friend to make the process go more smoothly.

I have unboxed many beds by myself, and while it's doable, it is much more difficult.

120-night trial

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a slightly longer than average trial period of 120 nights in comparison to the usual standard of 100 nights. So you have roughly four months to sleep on it at home to determine if you like the mattress and if it suits your needs.

Keep in mind that it can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. The trial period begins the day the mattress is delivered, not when you actually start sleeping on it.

Return policy

Within the 120-night trial period, you can return the Sedona Elite mattress and get a refund. There is no upfront fee to initiate a return; however, they will deduct $99 from your refund, which helps facilitate the mattress pickup process.

Like most brands, Brooklyn Bedding will ask you to sleep on the bed for at least 30 nights before initiating a return because no matter how nice and well-suited your new mattress is to your sleep type, your body needs a bit of time to adjust to it.

Warranty

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are backed by a standard 10-year warranty. This is the minimum duration of warranty you should expect for almost every mattress.

How does the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite compare to similar mattresses?

Sedona Elite vs. Leesa Legend Chill

The Legend Chill mattress from Leesa and the Sedona Elite are very similar. Both feature cooling covers, both are the most luxurious beds from the respective brands, both are a medium on the firmness scale, both are similarly priced after discount and both feature a layer of microcoils as a comfort layer.

The biggest difference between the two comes down to feel -- because the Sedona Elite features a layer of memory foam on top of microcoils, it has more of a memory foam feel, while the Legend Chill only has the micro coils and not memory foam so it has more of a pillow top feel with less body-conforming qualities.

Sedona Elite vs. Layla Hybrid

The Layla Hybrid is one of our favorite memory foam beds with coils because of its flippable design. Most mattresses these days are only designed to be slept on a single side, while the Layla Hybrid has a soft side and firm side, so you are really getting two firmness profiles in one bed.

The soft side is around a medium-soft on our scale which means it is very plush and provides a ton of pressure relief for side sleepers, and the firm side is slightly firmer than a medium and is generally accommodating for most sleepers. The Layla Hybrid also has a similar feel to the Sedona Hybrid -- which is a responsive memory foam.

The Layla Hybrid is also quite a bit more affordable than the Sedona Elite, but the Sedona Elite performs better in edge support and temperature regulation.

Final thoughts on the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite mattress

I think the Sedona Elite fills an interesting niche in the online mattress space by being a luxurious hybrid with a memory foam type of feel. Most luxury mattresses with a pillow top design have a very similar feel to one another, but the Sedona Elite is something different. Fans of memory foam should really enjoy the feel of the mattress, and it performs well in many of our testing categories like edge support, motion isolation and temperature regulation. Overall, I think this is an excellent mattress with a unique design.

You might like the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite mattress if:

  • You enjoy a memory foam type feel
  • You will be sharing your mattress
  • You like a memory firmness profile
  • You are a hot sleeper

You might not like the Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite mattress if:

  • You dislike memory foam
  • You want an especially firm or soft mattress
  • You want an organic mattress

Other mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: This is our top rated mattress from Brooklyn Bedding because of its accommodating feel, strong cooling factor and its multiple firmness options. It also has an optional "cloud pillow top" which adds even more comfort foam for slightly more cost.

I think for many sleepers the Aurora Luxe will be a more compelling option because it has a mattress feel that is more "safe" than the Sedona Elite and it comes in more firmness options for people looking for a firm mattress or a plush mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature: This is one of the best values in online mattresses and is a bed I recommend to any shopping on a budget. It is much more similar to the Aurora Luxe than the Sedona Elite because it uses the same types of comfort foams, and it comes in three different firmness profiles.

You can also spend up to get the Signature with a "cooling cloud pillow top," which adds comfort foam and a cool-to-the-touch cover, which I really like.
