Burnley announce Hannibal signing by reworking Wonderwall' by Oasis

Burnley completed the signing of Tunisia midfielder Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United on Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old - who made 13 first-team appearances for United after graduating from the club's youth system - will cost Burnley an initial transfer fee of £5.4m, potentially rising to £9.4m with add-ons.

The deal also includes a sell-on clause, plus an option for United to buy Hannibal back for a predetermined price.

Burnley's social media team have become famous in recent seasons for the way they announce new signings and the Hannibal deal was no exception.

With Oasis fever currently sweeping the nation following news of the Gallagher brothers' upcoming reunion, Burnley decided to rework the video - and the lyrics - of 1995 megahit 'Wonderwall'.

Hannibal played in 13 first-team games for United and scored one goal for the Old Trafford club

The Championship club tweeted a 56-second video, which had mostly been taken directly from the official Oasis video before ending with Hannibal holding a guitar.

However, AI had been used to make it sound like Liam Gallagher was singing: 'You're my Hannibal', instead of: 'You're my Wonderwall'.

Meanwhile, in reference to the famous line 'because maybe', Burnley captioned their tweet with the words: 'Because Mejbri'.

Burnley's latest transfer announcement went down well with fans on X (formerly Twitter).

One commented: 'Elite! Well played admin.' Another called it 'creativity at its finest'.

Meanwhile, Hannibal told burnleyfootballclub.com: 'I'm very excited. Very happy to be here and I can't wait to see the fans.

'I have played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing.

'After speaking to the coach [Scott Parker] the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can make success.'

United posted a 190-word statement on their official club website.

The last 140 words of United's statement read: 'Hannibal became the 239th graduate from our Academy in 2021, when he made his first-team debut against Wolves, just three days after being named as our Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year.

'He scored his only senior goal for the Reds in 2023, netting from long range in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

Burnley paid United an initial transfer fee of £5.4m for Hannibal, potentially rising to £9.4m

'In the 2022/23 season, the midfielder went on loan to Championship side Birmingham City, and he spent the second half of last term at Spanish outfit Sevilla.

'After spending pre-season and the start of 2024/25 as part of Erik ten Hag's squad, he now joins Burnley, who are looking to make an instant return to the Premier League under new manager Scott Parker, following their relegation last term.

'We wish you the best of luck with your next steps, Hannibal!'
