Monica Navarro, former assistant general manager at Foster's Freeze in Lemoore, California, expressed shock at the sudden closure of her workplace due to the state's new minimum wage law.

"It would have been helpful to receive notice so we could prepare and seek new opportunities," she said.

The owner, Loren Wright, cited the wage increase as the primary reason for closing, despite believing the restaurant was exempt from the law due to its number of locations.

Navarro believes the minimum wage increase will have a negative impact on local businesses, leading to closures and job cuts.

"This is not the first business that's closing," she said. "I feel like this is just the beginning."
