It's October, which means it's time for scary movies, dressing up as your favorite character and playing some horror games. And if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you'll have access to all kinds of demon- and monster-filled games to get you in the Halloween spirit.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate -- a CNET Editors' Choice award pick -- offers hundreds of games you can play on your Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One and PC or mobile device for $20 a month. A subscription gets you access to a large library of games with new titles -- like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 -- added every month, plus other benefits like online multiplayer and deals on non-Game Pass titles.

Dead Space
Return to the USG Ishimura and battle the grotesque creatures lurking within in this remake of a survival-horror classic. You play as an engineer named Isaac Clarke responding to the ship's distress signal. Your partner Nicole is on board, and after discovering the crew has been slaughtered, you set out to find her and uncover what happened. Feel free to play this game with the lights on -- I won't tell.
DOOM
The demons overrunning a Mars research facility aren't the real danger in this game, you are. You play as the Doom Slayer, a force of nature who's armed to the teeth with a chainsaw, rockets and a whole lot of big guns. Your mission is simple: rip and tear until it is done, or until you have to take a break for snacks.
Resident Evil 2
Welcome back to Raccoon City; watch the blood and gore on the ground. This award-winning remake takes you back to the epicenter of the viral outbreak as rookie cop Leon Kennedy starting his first day and college student Claire Redfield looking for her missing brother. Modern gameplay mechanics and visuals ramp up this game's horror elements and make it one of the best Resident Evil games, again. So stock up on green herbs and ammo -- you're going to need them.
And if you make it through this game and want more zombie-killing goodness, you can play the Resident Evil 3 remake on Game Pass as well.
State of Decay 2
How will you survive the hordes of the undead? Civilization has fallen after zombies began to rise from the dead, and it's up to you to gather survivors, collect resources and build a community from the ashes. You can play this game with up to three friends to see who would last the longest in a zombie apocalypse.
