Celtic land striker Idah for £8.5million

Adam Idah is finally poised to join Celtic this week after the Parkhead club agreed to pay Norwich City a minimum of £8.5million for his signature.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in Glasgow from January, scoring nine goals including the winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

The Republic of Ireland international made it clear to the Carrow Road hierarchy that he wanted to make the move to Celtic permanent when he returned for pre-season, but was denied the chance to travel with Brendan Rodgers’ side to the USA as no deal could be struck.

Having had several bids of under £6m rejected, Celtic finally got their man last night with the fee potentially rising to £9.5m with add-ons.

It’s believed the Canaries have also inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.

Idah is now set to agree personal terms before having a medical - and he could feature against Hibernian in the second round League Cup tie at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Rodgers, whose only other recognised forward is Kyogo Furuhashi, made no secret of his desire to bring Idah back to the club.

‘I’m hoping, by the end of the window, that it can be done, with some others,’ said the Parkhead boss.

Meanwhile, Alistair Johnston insisted the Celtic dressing room will warmly welcome any new arrivals.

‘We have a really strong squad but, at the same time, you know what the gaffer wants to bring in,’ said the full back.

‘He’s been pretty vocal about that, and anyone that can come in and help push this team is going to be welcomed with open arms.’
