Chelsea Champions League winner comes out of retirement aged 39

The winger played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2012, and scored 60 goals for the west London club in 254 appearances.

The player in question was also part of the Chelsea side that became the first London club to win the Champions League in 2012 after beating Bayern Munich in the final.

He went on to play for Lille, Hertha Berlin and Brazilian side Botafogo after leaving the Blues that same summer.

Salomon Kalou  played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2012, scoring 60 goals in 254 games

And now, Salomon Kalou has stepped out of retirement to play for SC Gagnoa, a club in Ivory Coast's second-tier.

The former Ivory Coast international made a shock move to to Djibouti club Arta Solar 7 two years ago where he played alongside ex-Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

Arta's Ivorian chairman Tommy Tayoro Nyckoss took charge of SC Gagnoa last month and he has now convinced Kalou to join the club as a player and director.

Kalou said: 'I am going to get a player's licence, so that I can be part of coach Bernard Casoni's squad.

'And maybe if SC Gagnoa play against ASEC Mimosas or Africa Sports in the Ivorian Cup, I will take part in the game.'

SC Gagnoa suffered relegation from Ivory Coasts's top division last season and will be keen to gain promotion this term.
