Chelsea close in on sealing £21m deal for Filip Jorgensen

Chelsea are closing in on a £20.7million deal for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The 22-year-old is due to undergo a medical this week ahead of agreeing a seven-year contract.

As reported by Mail Sport, the Blues had offered £17m but Villarreal held out for £21m - with both clubs reaching a compromise in recent days.

Jorgensen is thought to be keen to join the club to compete with current No 1 Robert Sanchez and will pledge his long-term future to Stamford Bridge.

He could now fly out to the United States for his medical checks.

The stopper acted as Villarreal's first-choice last season and made 37 appearances across all competitions as they narrowly missed out on a European place.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca has set about strengthening his options between the sticks and is said to have initially targeted Leicester's Mads Hermansen.

But Jorgensen will become the latest high-profile addition in the position and follow in the footsteps of Djordje Petrovic and Sanchez, both of whom arrived last summer.

Sanchez had initially served as Chelsea's No 1 before a knee injury suffered against Everton in December ruled him out for much of the remainder of the campaign.

Petrovic impressed in his absence and went on to make 31 appearances.

Chelsea, of course, also still have the sport's most expensive goalkeeper in history on their books after Kepa Arrizabalaga returned from his loan spell at Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, the club have ratified the signing of Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors for £15.6m. He will return to Argentina on loan.

Promising defender Anselmino was linked to Manchester United.
