Chelsea fans have expressed their frustration after the referee for their first Premier League game of the season was revealed.

The Blues face a difficult challenge on Sunday as their get their new campaign underway at home to current title holders Manchester City.

Some Chelsea supporters believe that their chances of winning the game have now been reduced further following the announcement regarding the officials.

The game will see Enzo Maresca commence his tenure as Chelsea manager. 

Chelsea have had a busy summer in the transfer market, with Pedro Neto amongst the arrivals at the club.

It has been revealed that Anthony Taylor will be the referee for Chelsea's game against Manchester City.

Chelsea fans were quick to point out that Taylor is from Wythenshawe in Manchester.

In addition, supporters provided a list of controversial decisions that Taylor has previously made during Chelsea matches. 

One fan pointed out decisions that Taylor made against Mateo Kovacic, Reece Jamess and Marc Cucurella.

Another wrote: 'How does it keep happening', with another commenting: 'Didn't he referee the same fixture last season?'. 

Taylor, who first refereed a Premier League game in 2010, was involved at Euro 2024 this summer.

He controversially decided against awarding a penalty to Germany in the semi-finals after Jamal Musiala's effort struck Marc Cucurella's hand.
