Chilwell insists Chelsea 'bomb squad' star is 'most underrated player'

Ben Chilwell has revealed that one member of Chelsea's 'bomb squad' is in fact the 'most underrated player' in Enzo Maresca's team.

On Wednesday, the Chelsea manager had issued a warning to out-of-favour star Raheem Sterling, and the rest of the exiled playing group, that should they not find deals to move away from the club this summer, they would not play a single minute under the Italian manager.

With Chelsea  set to continue to make signings right up until deadline day, with the Blues looking to bring in another forward, their squad of unwanted players has also grown larger.

Sterling, Romelu Lukaku, Djordje Petrovic, Carney Chukwumeka, David Datro Fofana, Armando Broja, Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington are all among the names of players to feature in Maresca's list of exiles.

Chilwell is another player who has joined up to train with the group and in an interview with Fubo, revealed that fellow 'bomb squad' member Trevoh Chalobah was the 'most underrated player' in Chelsea's entire squad.

'I personally just love watching Trev play,' the 27-year-old said to Fubo.

‘I think he’s a brilliant athlete, he’s good on the ball, he’s Chelsea through and through.

‘I personally think Trev’s the most underrated player. He’s the one that comes to mind.’

He also revealed that he thought Mykhailo Mudryk was the most skilful player in the Blues squad, while Noni Madueke, who scored a hat-trick of goals against Wolves last weekend, was the team's DJ in the dressing room alongside Carney Chukwuemeka.

Earlier today, Mail Sport revealed that Crystal Palace are interested in signing Chalobah from Chelsea, despite having agreed a £17.5million fee for Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix.

Palace sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham last week and uncertainty still revolves around Marc Guehi's future.

Chalobah, 25, missed half of last season due to injury, before returning to become a prominent figure in Mauricio Pochettino's defence during the latter stages of the campaign

Chalobah, 25, missed half of last season due to injury, before returning to become a prominent figure in Mauricio Pochettino's defence during the latter stages of the Premier League campaign - notably scoring in the Blues' 2-0 win against London rivals, Tottenham.

Rumours have also been circulating in recent weeks that Man United had been looking to sign Chilwell after he was added to Maresca's 'bomb squad'. Mail Sport understands that it is now unlikely Chilwell will leave the club this summer, with the full back's £200,000-per-week wages being a stumbling block.

But both Chalobah and Chilwell face an uncertain future under Maresca if they cannot secure a move away from the club by Friday's deadline, with Maresca claiming he could snub exiled players from his first team entirely this season.

Speaking on Sterling's situation, Maresca stated ahead of Chelsea's Conference League game against Servette: ‘My advice. He knows exactly what he has to do. He doesn't need my advice. We’re going to see.

Chilwell, meanwhile, is unlikely to leave the club this summer despite rumours linking him to Man United

‘I prefer to be honest with the player. The ones who are not involved, they are all players who are not going to be involved and they don’t get any minutes in case they stay.

‘We will see who is here and who is not here. The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones who I think can help us.'
