Cole Palmer signs two-year contract extension at Chelsea until 2033

Cole Palmer has signed a two-year contract extension at Chelsea tying the England forward down until June 2033.

The 22-year-old was the stand-out performer at Stamford Bridge last season, scoring 25 goals in 45 games.

And he took his red-hot form into the international arena, impressing off the bench for England during Euro 2024.

His performances went from strength to strength as the tournament went on, with the talent setting up Ollie Watkins's last-minute winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

A second-half strike in the final against Spain left the Three Lions within touching distance of a long-awaited trophy but the side fell to a 2-1 defeat after a late Mikel Oyarzabal winner.

Now Palmer, whose Chelsea deal already had him committed to the London club until 2031, has put pen to paper on a two-year extension, The Athletic reports.

In the aftermath of the devastating defeat at the hands of Spain, Palmer admitted that England's opponents were the deserving winners on the night.

'Spain have been brilliant all tournament, everyone has seen what they can do, so they're a great team, congratulations to them,' he said, before conceding: 'It hurts... I'm gutted.'

Palmer commented further on his own journey at Euro 2024 on his Instagram.

He posted a series of tournament snapshots alongside the caption: 'Gutted. An honour to represent my country in a major tournament, thank you to everyone for their support throughout the tournament.'

The Chelsea forward, whose nickname is 'cold', lit up the Premier League last season amid a campaign which proved extremely disappointing for the Blues.

He finished the season with 22 goals and 11 assists in the league and was particularly deadly from the penalty spot, scoring nine across the campaign.

While he does not share much of his personal life on social media, he has regularly spoken about his family and their close bond in the past.

Last year, he told how he owes his success to father Jermaine, saying: 'Without my dad I probably wouldn't be a footballer.

'He did numerous hours with me every night, working with me to try and make me a professional footballer. And yeah I am trying to repay him as much as I can.'

Father Jermaine, who fixes dental equipment for a living, was a self-proclaimed pub football legend, who spotted the talent in his young son when he was aged around four and quickly instilled in him a love of the game.

In an interview in 2022 Palmer told how his first memories were about football.

He said of his daily trips to the park with his father: 'We would do that every single day whatever the weather - and my dad's family is from St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. He hates going out in the cold. But he'd do it for me anyway.'

He also remembered his dad taking him to watch him play for his Sunday League team.

He said: 'He used to sit me down on the bag of balls on the sidelines, wrapped in one of his rain jackets. I would just take it all in - the crunching tackles, the shouting, the arguing.

'Dad doesn't play anymore since he done his knee, and I don't really remember any specific games, but he'll tell you how good he was!

'He fixes dental equipment as his real job, but to listen to him you'd think he'd had a 20-year career in the Premier League!'
