Danny Welbeck taken off on a stretcher after horror injury

Danny Welbeck had to be stretched off the pitch at St James Park following what appears to be a serious injury.

The Brighton ace fell to the floor in the 77th minute following a coming together with Newcastle defender Fabian Schar.

The collision between the pair appeared minuscule, however the 33-year-old immediately fell to the floor in agony, with medical staff being called on the pitch immediately.

Welbeck was treated for several minutes on the pitch before he was taken away on a stretcher with less than fifteen minutes left to go in the clash.

Several reports are saying the Brighton star suffered an injury to his lower back, the severity of the injury is unknown.

The Seagulls striker now has five goals in eight games this season for Fabian Hurzeler's men, continuing his flying start he has made this season.

He has already equaling his tally from last season and his goal today, not only made it back-to-back league wins for his side but it also marked his 100th goal contribution in the Premier League, with 72 assists and 28 assists.
