Detroit set to shine as NFL Draft host
Detroit will host the NFL Draft for the first time, and it's a perfect time for both the city and the Detroit Lions to showcase themselves to a national audience.
"I'm so excited about the draft being in Detroit," said Lions general manager Brad Holmes. "It's just another opportunity for our franchise, our city, just for the world to kind of migrate to downtown Detroit."
Detroit's downtown has been revitalized in recent years, and the city is eager to show off all it has to offer. As the host city, Detroit has a number of activities planned, including:
- NFL Draft experience at Hart Plaza, featuring an autograph stage, photo opportunities with the Lombardi Trophy, a Taste of Detroit set-up, and more.
- NFL Draft Theater near Campus Martius, which will hold 1,500 fans per day and host daily free concerts.
- Local bars and restaurants hosting watch parties for the draft.
Officials expect the draft to bring in an estimated $175 million to $200 million in revenue for Detroit.
"Very excited to see all those people downtown and get the whole world to see Detroit maybe in a different way than what they perceive right now," said Lions president Rod Wood. "I think it's going to be a great three-day commercial for the city."
