England and USA are 'locked in a tug of war' for Chelsea wonderkid, 16

England and the USA are set to battle it out for the services of a highly-rated Chelsea youngster.

The prospect has already represented both nations at youth level and has been named in the latest England Under-17 squad.

He is the son of a former Chelsea director of football.

England U17s are due to play European Championship qualifiers against Malta, Latvia and Sweden later this month.

The USA, meanwhile, are looking to develop young talent that could eventually break into the senior set-up under Mauricio Pochettino.

As reported by The Telegraph, both England and the USA are eager for Landon Emenalo to play for them.

The 16-year-old midfielder was born in Arizona and has an American mother but has spent the vast majority of his football development at Chelsea, other than a brief spell at Monaco.

Emenalo has made an impact for Chelsea Under-18s, which included scoring against Leicester last season, while he has also previously featured for the Blues at Under-21 level.

The youngster is the son of Michael Emenalo, who was assistant manager at Chelsea before becoming technical director.

During his time at Chelsea, Emenalo oversaw the signings of key players such as Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante.

A former Nigeria international, he is now the director of football of the Saudi Pro League.
