Erik ten Hag emphasises the 'facts' of his Man United trophy record

Erik ten Hag has emphasised the 'facts' of his trophy record at Manchester United as he goes into a pivotal clash at Old Trafford with the club's fiercest rivals Liverpool.

Ten Hag, who saved his job in the summer by winning the FA Cup, is under pressure again after United have made an unconvincing start to the season.

With co-owner Sir Jim Ratclife expecting improvements, Ten Hag faces fellow Dutchman Arne Slot in the Premier League for the first time, and has talked up his achievement as the first United manager win silverware in consecutive seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010.

Liverpool have won only the League Cup in the two years since Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford.

'Listen, behind City we won the most trophies over the last two years, so performed better than anyone else,' said Ten Hag. 'That's the reality. Those are the facts.

'This year we want to win trophies again and I am quite confident. There's only one thing that matters in football: if you win prizes at the end of the season.

'I had to build this club. We brought young players in. We progressed young players. We won trophies. So what can I do more?

'As far as I know, the fans are happy with me, even though it's not about me, it's about Man United, and of course we set higher targets.'
