Esports Team Complexity to Build Fan App on Sonic in Sponsorship Deal

Complexity, a prominent and long-running North American esports organization, has announced a multifaceted sponsorship deal with blockchain company Sonic Labs, the firm behind the upcoming Sonic layer-1 network.

Sonic Labs will become Complexity's exclusive blockchain sponsor, with its branding set to be added to team jerseys. The collaboration is built around fan engagement, including sponsorship of streamed Counter-Strike 2 tournaments and community game night events.

Additionally, Complexity—which also competes in games like Rocket League and Madden NFL—said that it will develop a fan application on Sonic. The app will include ways for fans to interact with their favorite teams and players, including a quest system that will provide rewards to users.

"We're excited to partner with Complexity, one of the most visible esports organizations in the world, to bring awareness of Sonic to its global fanbase and showcase what a next generation of gaming fandom looks like," said Sonic Labs CEO Michael Kong, in a release.

Sonic is a new layer-1 blockchain network being built by developers from Fantom. It’s billed as a speedy new option for builders with a connection to Ethereum, and the network is expected to launch later this year.

The Complexity collaboration is set to launch this week with the first Sonic Community Night on August 30, followed by integration into Complexity's NA Revival Series for Counter-Strike 2 in September. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The Sonic Labs team is dedicated to bringing the excitement of gaming on-chain with the launch of Sonic later this year, and we're excited to have them as an official sponsor to help realize that vision,” said Complexity founder and CEO Jason Lake, in a statement.
