Fans fume after Watford have 'clean goal ruled out' at Man City

Watford had a goal disallowed during Tuesday's clash with Manchester City in the Carabao Cup but many fans were adamant that it should have stood.

Kwadwo Baah dribbled with the ball from inside his own half before firing a low shot past City keeper Stefan Ortega at the Etihad Stadium.

However, referee David Webb ruled that Baah had illegally barged City defender Kaden Braithwaite out of his way moments before taking his shot.

Former Tottenham star Michael Dawson was commentating on the game for Sky Sports and he said while reviewing the disallowed goal: 'He's given a foul, I'm not too sure why. Does he just strength him out? I tell you what, I think it's soft.

'Oh no, he does charge him. I first thought it was shoulder on shoulder but he actually just goes straight across him.'

While Dawson appeared to agree with the decision after reviewing a replay, many fans remained furious with the call.

One tweet read: 'Watford has this goal disallowed because he was too strong?! How has that not been given?!'

Another called it a 'mental decision' and claimed that 'Haaland does that every week'.

A third tweet claimed: 'It's a contact sport, an opponent using his strength to hold of the city player, ref has made a huge mistake'.

A different fan added: 'That Watford goal should've stood, that young defender gotta be stronger on his feet like that. That was a clean goal ruled out'.

Meanwhile, celebrity Watford supporter Chris Stark - of BBC Radio 1 and That Peter Crouch Podcast fame - wrote: 'Mad decision. Wouldn't happen to Haaland'.

Baah's goal was disallowed when City leading 1-0 thanks to an early strike from Jeremy Doku.

It was 2-0 by half-time after Matheus Nunes netted the first goal of his City career.

But the final score was only 2-1 to City after Tom Ince pulled a goal back for the Championship side in the 86th minute.
