Avocado has recalled around 55,480 organic cotton mattress pad protectors because they violate federal flammability regulations, specifically cigarette ignition resistance. The pads can potentially pose a fire hazard, though no injuries have been reported.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the impacted mattress pad protectors were sold in Avocado stores or online between January 2019 and March 2024. This recall includes all sizes, from twin to California king, as well as both the standard and deep pocket styles.
If you think your mattress pad might have been recalled, check the attached label. It will include the brand, date of manufacture, fiber content and model number. Recalled mattress pads will have the model number SFMPAVORG.
The good news is that Avocado will replace recalled mattress pads with new ones that meet federal regulations for free. Per the recall page, the replacement mattress pad is GOTS-certified and is of the same quality as the original pad.
You cannot get your replacement at a retail location. You must do it online through Avocado's recall form.
To get your replacement, you will need to follow a few steps.
- First, visit the Avocado recall page to register online using the form.
- Using a marker, write the date, your initials and "recalled" on the pad.
- Cut the mattress pad in half.
- Take a picture of the mattress pad cut in half with written information visible.
- Upload it to the form and receive your confirmation page.
