Highly anticipated: Fallout: London's five-year development cycle suffered numerous delays and other difficulties, including a last-minute roadblock from Bethesda. Still, the immense size of the free Fallout 4 total conversion suggests the wait might be worth it. Interested players should note that installing Fallout: London requires rolling back the base game.

Fallout 4 owners can now download Fallout: London for free. At 33GB, the total conversion is too big for Nexusmods or the Creation Club, so users must download it from GOG. The GOG installer supports the Steam and GOG versions of Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition but not the Epic Games Store edition.

Transporting players to post-apocalyptic London, the mod offers about as much content as the base game. It features around 200 quests (slightly more than Fallout 4), several new companions, additional factions, an original soundtrack, and thousands of lines of voiced dialogue. Its cast includes Baldur's Gate 3 actor Neil Newbon and former UK Speaker of the House John Bercow.

In development since 2019, Fallout: London nearly launched in April, but Bethesda scheduled a massive patch for Fallout 4 to land two days later to promote the spin-off television series. The update, which added new performance modes on current-generation consoles and ultrawide support on PC, would have broken Fallout: London, so Team FOLON decided to wait for the dust to settle.

To sidestep the issue for the initial release, GOG and the modders have provided a few ways to roll Fallout 4 back to version 1.10.163.0. Those who own the GOG edition, currently deeply discounted to $16, can simply download the older build or roll back their installation through the Gog Galaxy launcher. A downgrade tool for the Steam version is available on Nexusmods.

Afterward, download the Fallout: London installer from GOG and follow the included directions. Advanced users can follow the manual installation instructions on the mod's website. Fallout: London will eventually support the most recent build of Fallout 4, making it compatible with the Epic Games Store edition.

Installing Fallout: London replaces the Fallout 4 installation, and players must disable cloud saves before starting the mod. Furthermore, playing Fallout: London requires starting a new save file.

Marcin PaczyÅÂski, senior business development manager at GOG, told VG247 that the store was treating the mod release as a "trial run" for hosting other big mods. If the community responds positively, GOG might begin hosting more mods with independent store pages.
