Get a Peek at the Pixel 9 Pro in Google's New Video

Google isn't being shy about showing off the Pixel 9 Pro. In a brief video posted to X (formerly Twitter), the company provided a brief glimpse of the Pixel 9 Pro's rear camera, along with strong hints that the company's Gemini AI assistant will play a big role on the device.

Google will unveil the Pixel 9 Pro during an event on August 13 in its hometown of Mountain View, California, where it's also expected to introduce the Pixel 9 and a rumored new foldable phone called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google's annual hardware event is critical because it illustrates both the company's direction for its Pixel lineup and its take on how AI will change our smartphones. This year, the event takes place just before Apple is expected to hold its usual iPhone launch in September, where its suite of AI features (known as Apple Intelligence) will also likely get a good amount of stage time.

Google's video doesn't reveal much about the Pixel 9 Pro other than its new camera bar, which looks like it slightly protrudes from the back of the device and no longer stretches across the entire back of the phone. Otherwise, the Pixel 9 Pro is expected to have a fresh design with flat sides sort of like those on the iPhone, according to a report from the blog MySmartPrice and serial phone leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, who goes by the alias OnLeaks

Back at Google I/O, the company discussed how its Gemini assistant will have a larger presence within Android by understanding more context about content on a phone's screen. Since Google's Pixel 9 Pro teaser video is very Gemini-centric, it wouldn't be surprising to hear more about that vision on August 13.
