Haaland produces two horror misses after scoring 'impossible' goal

After netting the decisive goal in Manchester City's 1-0 win over Southampton, Erling Haaland will be disappointed not have significantly added to his season tally.

The Norwegian's afternoon began in perfect fashion when he held off the challenge of Southampton defender Jan Bednarek to put City in the lead after just five minutes.

But Haaland then produced a pair of incredible misses that belied his reputation as a deadly marksman and had all Fantasy Premier League fans covering their eyes in disbelief.

The first came after the break following a left-wing cross from Savinho. Haaland evaded his marker and had the goal at his mercy but somehow managed to put his effort wide of the mark, with Aaron Ramsdale on rushing.

The Southampton stopper did well to spread himself and put the striker off his effort. Minutes later Haaland stretched to meet a delivery with his head at the far post. Incredibly he again failed to register, with the Saints eventually surviving their trip to the Etihad with the concession of only one goal.

Haaland was unable to direct his far-post header towards goal, as the Saints left Manchester with narrow loss

Following his early goal, Haaland had been hailed by City fans after scoring from a difficult  angle against Russell Martin's side.

In scoring, Haaland has now surpassed the goal tally of the striker that he was signed to replace.

One fan hailed Haaland as 'unstoppable' following his hugely impressive finish.

Meanwhile, another supporter added that the striker is a 'specialist in scoring impossible goals'.

The striker has now scored more Premier League goals (74) than Gabriel Jesus (73). Remarkably, Haaland has achieved the feat in 143 fewer games than Jesus.

Haaland signed for City in 2022, the same summer in which Jesus joined Arsenal. Jesus made his Premier League debut for City in January 2017.

One supporter described Haaland as 'unreal', with another commenting 'I swear Haaland hasn't scored one tap-in this season'.

Haaland has frequently been criticised for only scoring goals from close range but has now shown that he is capable of producing a variety of finishes.
