Instagram's newest update is a major throwback. The platform released a new feature that lets you add a song to your profile page, which is what Sabrina Carpenter used this week to tease an early preview of her new album.
If you feel like Instagram's new profile song feature sounds familiar, you're right -- it's similar to one of the many iconic features of the early-aughts social network MySpace. The feature is rolling out today for all users globally. If you don't see the clip yet on Carpenter's page, don't panic. Rolling out new features can take time, and once you have access to the new feature, the song teaser will pop up on Carpenter's profile and you'll be able to add a song to your own page.
Instagram is also getting in on other fun ways to celebrate Carpenter's new album, Short n' Sweet, which is available now. If you post a Carpenter song or lyric in your Notes, it'll get a Sabrina-themed makeover, and you can change your DM chat themes to Short n' Sweet that has the same baby blue color and look as her album cover.
Instagram has been expanding the ways you can share music on the platform. Earlier this summer, it added a new Add Yours Music feature that lets you create and respond to other people's prompts with songs, promoted as part of a campaign for Dua Lipa's latest album, Radical Optimism.
How to add a song to your Instagram profile
If you want to share your favorite song, by Carpenter or anyone else, this is how you can add it to your profile.
- Navigate to your profile page.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Add music.
- Search and select the song you want to add.
- Slide the bar to the clip you want to play.
- Tap Done.
If you don't see it load on your profile immediately, try refreshing the page by pulling it down. The song won't autoplay on your profile. The feature is available for all users globally.
