Joe Cole hails Chelsea and draws comparison with iconic Liverpool trio

Joe Cole was full of praise for Chelsea's attacking performance in their 3-0 victory against West Ham.

Cole claimed that the Blues' display reminded him of Liverpool's famous previous attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Nicolas Jackson scored twice against West Ham, with his first goal coming after just four minutes, while Cole Palmer also managed to get on the scoresheet.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole said: They were dominant, they were strong, they were positive. They looked sharp, they looked organised. West Ham couldn't lay a glove on them. It was a real strong showing. This could be the first time we've seen a real glimpse of what this new Chelsea team is capable of.'

Chelsea have now won three away league games in succession, with this victory following on from wins against Bournemouth and Wolves.

Cole drew a comparison with the famous Liverpool trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino

'That's what the Chelsea fans want to see - three away games on the trot. They look like a club moving in the right direction. I've not seen Chelsea fans as happy as that for a while.'

Former Chelsea star Cole was delighted with the cohesive manner in which the Blues played at London Stadium and hailed their effectiveness on the counter-attack.

That prompted Cole to draw a comparison with the famous Liverpool trio of Salah,  Firmino and Mane, who frequently tormented opposing defenders when playing together.

Although only Salah still remains at Anfield, Liverpool fans still have many fond memories of the three stars playing together.

Cole was pleased with the cohesive manner in which Chelsea played against West Ham

Commenting on Chelsea's display, Cole said: There looked a clear way of playing, there looked like cohesion. From the goalkeeper right the way through, the counter-attacking was exceptional, the way they got in behind. I don't want to get carried away but there were glimpses that reminded me of that Liverpool side with Mane, Salah and Firmino.

'There have been false dawns before but the fans look really happy. Thursday night's going to be a good thing for this team. Things are starting to turn the corner and Chelsea fans can be quietly optimistic.'

Against West Ham, Chelsea started with a trio of Noni Madueke, Palmer and Jadon Sancho operating behind Jackson.

Whereas for most of last season Chelsea were heavily reliant on Palmer, they are now performing much better as a unit.

Chelsea will take much confidence from this result and will now be looking to push on further and show consistency under Maresca.
