Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on Arne Slot and reveals they are in touch

Jurgen Klopp has thrown his weight behind the Arne Slot era by insisting his replacement is doing a 'really good' job.

It was never in doubt that Klopp would give his blessing to the Dutchman and he proved that when he got the crowd to chant his name after his final match against Wolves.

Klopp revealed that he is keeping in touch with Slot but made clear that he is not 'pulling strings' or being an overbearing presence.

Despite being impressed with Slot - who led Liverpool to a 2-0 win over Ipswich in his first competitive game - Klopp has named another club that he 'especially' enjoys watching in his spare time.

'We spoke one or two times [at the start],' Klopp told ESPN Netherlands. 'I think we texted a few more times. But there is nothing I can tell him what he couldn't know himself.

Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with the work Arne Slot has done, claiming his style was 'obvious' in pre-season

Slot has had a strong start to life at Liverpool and is in touch with his predecessor

'Right now from my side, just to give positive feedback in the beginning because we are all human beings and he worked his socks off.

'I know that because the tour is super intense in a year when you have Euros and Copa, you don't have the team together, but they come, you have one week until the first matchday and stuff like that.

'So I think he had similar situation, but exactly the same situation? Definitely not. When I saw the games, that's why I watched it, not to think, oh, how does it look? The work he did was obvious, the ideas obvious. And that's the best you can say about the coach.'

Liverpool won all of their games on tour in the United States, dispatching Real Betis, Arsenal, and Liverpool as Slot's full-thrust style came to the fore.

Back in England they pulled off the rare feat of negotiating two matches in one day, beating Sevilla 4-1 at Anfield before drawing 0-0 with Las Palmas in a LaLiga double header.

'I was really happy when I heard that Liverpool was going for Arne Slot. I wasn't involved in anything, it should not be like that, and I'm not this kind of guy in the background, still having some strings and stuff,' Klopp said.

'Like I don't want that. The club is too big, too good. [The] People are too good. A lot of things changed since we left.

'But the only concern for me was, will they get a good coach? Liverpool was early and Liverpool got a top, top, top solution in Arne Slot.'

Klopp admitted he 'especially' enjoys watching Red Bull Salzburg, where his former assistant Pep Lijnders is manager

Klopp admitted to being exhausted towards the end of his Liverpool reign and left so that he could relax with his wife, Ulla.

But the 57-year-old still feels a pang of sentiment - he misses the players and the staff.

'I miss them,' he said. 'I don't miss the job, [but] I miss all the people there. We can, we can see each other whenever we want in the future.

'I enjoy still watching football and especially Salzburg right now because, Pep [Lijnders] is super important to me so I like watching it and like to see the progress.'

Salzburg are top of the Austrian Bundesliga after three games as they look to reclaim the title from Sturm Graz and won 2-0 at Dynamo Kyiv in their first Champions League play-off leg.

Klopp added: 'I saw Liverpool playing as well, was really good. These are the things I watched, but besides that, it was a lot of Olympics and stuff like that.'
