Jurgen Klopp reportedly held multiple meetings regarding a potential return to management with a major international side.

Klopp is taking a break after his spell as Liverpool manager, which lasted for almost nine years, came to an end.

Despite Klopp being adamant that he wants to have a break from football, he was contacted regarding a potential job.

As reported by The Athletic, Klopp was identified as a potential candidate to replace Gregg Berhalter as manager of the USA national team.

Other high-profile names that were considered included Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, Brentford manager Thomas Frank, ex-England manager Gareth Southgate and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter.

Although Klopp held initial talks over the job, he wasn't willing to take up the job.

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino ended up being appointed.

It is said that USA official conducted 'deep dives' on each potential candidate to assess their playing styles.

Pochettino is said to have impressed chiefs during a four-hour meeting. 

The USA were eager for a fresh start after being knocked out in the group stages of the Copa America. They will host the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and Mexico.
