Klopp SAVAGED by Borussia Dortmund fans over new role with Red Bull

The announcement of Jurgen Klopp's new job as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull has been met with disgust from some supporters of his former club Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp left his post as manager of Liverpool back in May after a successful nine-year spell in charge, having led the club to Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

The 57-year-old had been enjoying his time off, stating that he didn't want to take up a coaching role and needed a rest after making his decision at the start of the year.

However, it has now been confirmed that the ex-Liverpool boss has agreed a deal with Red Bull and will take up his new role as Global Head of Soccer on January 1.

The decision has not been warmly received by many Dortmund fans, who have long had issues with RB Leipzig - funded by the Austrian drinks manufacturer - over their ownership model.

Dortmund fans reacted with disgust to the news of Jurgen Klopp's new job following his Liverpool departure

'Lost all respect for Klopp,' one user wrote on X. 'Bull is not easy to support.' Their post included three vomiting emojis.

Another said: ' From "normal one" to can man. What a shame...' A third wrote: 'You made yourself a dog, Jurgen.'

'You're nobody in my book anymore. Every cop is a son of a b***h,' added a fourth Dortmund supporter.

Klopp's new role will require him to be responsible for the international network of all football clubs under the Red Bull umbrella - including Leipzig, Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls

He will be required to advise the clubs on coaching matters, playing philosophy, development and transfers of players and head coaches.

Speaking about his new role, Klopp told the Red Bull website: 'After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this.

'The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.

There were harsh words for the German manager from Borussia Dortmund fans after the announcement

'There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries.

'Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more.'

In 2016, during Leipzig's first season in the German top-flight, Dortmund fan groups agreed to boycott their first visit to the Red Bull Arena.

The creation of RB Leipzig by the energy drink company, followed by their meteoric rise through the leagues from 2009, left opposition fans with a deep dislike for the club.

The main issue was Red Bull's circumnavigation of the Bundesliga's 50+1 rule, which gives its members, the fans, the balance of power when it comes to electing the board.

In September, Klopp stepped back into the dugout as part of a testimonial to honour two of his former players, Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Klopp took charge of Blaszczykowski's side for the testimonial, and put some of his former players through their paces in a training session.

Klopp bade an emotional farewell to the Reds at the end of last season, ending a trophy-laden nine-year spell

Earlier this summer he appeared to claim that it is unlikely that he would return to management at the top level but would consider a job in football after his sabbatical.

Asked how he has been filling his time since leaving management Klopp replied: 'I'm working, but not as much as I used to. I'm not just doing nothing, but sometimes I am. I don't miss anything!'
