Lalas gives brutal verdict on Biden as soccer analyst attends DNC

Alexi Lalas has savaged Joe Biden after watching the President's speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

The former USMNT star, now a controversial analyst, attended the Republican convention in Milwaukee last month.

Lalas, who previously revealed he is a 'proud registered Republican' has now crossed the political divide to take in the DNC in Chicago.

Biden gave an emotional farewell speech on the first day of the convention, only a month after he dropped out of race for the White House following a disastrous debate performance.

Lalas mocked the President's keynote address, writing on social media: 'Biden shouting into the night was cold, sad, and irrelevant.'

He added: 'It was: cold - he was relegated into late night obscurity. Sad - being booted out of the election and left screaming into the midnight abyss was not how he (or [wife] Jill) envisioned the story to end.

'Irrelevant - Nothing he said changed a single vote…even if anyone stuck around.'

Lalas joked that the speech was so long that 'even (Donald) Trump thinks Biden should wrap.'

But the FOX Sports analyst, who was a star for the USA at the 1994 soccer World Cup, also hit out at the way Biden was forced out of the race by the Democratic Party machine.

'Millions of Americans voted for a candidate, and so the GOP honored and respected those votes and voters,' Lalas said.

'Rather than, say, orchestrate an emergency change and install a different candidate they may feel has a better chance to win.'
