Liverpool 'eye Mo Salah replacement' ahead of next summer

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing a Champions League finalist to potentially replace Mo Salah.

The Reds could be set to lose their talisman in the coming months, and will need to find a suitable successor if Salah does opt to move on.

According to Bild, Liverpool are now targeting Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi following his flying start to the season.

The report states that Liverpool would be willing to pay €50m (£42m) to land Adeyemi.

Adeyemi, 22, signed for Dortmund two years ago, and has a contract with the club until 2027.

He started last season's Champions League final as Dortmund were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid at Wembley.

Adeyemi has continued his good form into this season by registering five goals and five assists in eight appearances across all competitions.

The German international netted a hat-trick in Dortmund's 7-1 thrashing of Celtic on Tuesday night, but was taken off shortly after half time with a thigh injury.

He is still waiting to learn the full extent of the injury, but will hope it is not a major setback after finding form in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Liverpool's pursuit could be hampered by Adeyemi's love for Dortmund, as he admitted to Bild: 'I feel great here in Dortmund. I was already a big fan as a little boy!'

But a switch to Liverpool could prove too tempting to turn down. Arne Slot already has an array of attacking talent at his disposal, with Salah leading the way and the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez hot on his heels.

Adeyemi has made a flying start to the season but did pick up an injury after scoring a hat-trick against Celtic on Tuesday

Salah got on the scoresheet again in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Bologna on Wednesday as the Reds made it two wins from two in Europe this season.

The Egyptian scored a trademark curling effort with his left foot to put the result beyond doubt, but Liverpool may soon have to cope without him, and could turn to Adeyemi to bolster their front line.
