Liverpool name squad for USA tour with 11 first-team players missing

Liverpool have named their squad for their pre-season tour of the USA.

The Reds will take in friendlies against Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United across the pond after flying from Manchester Airport.

Arne Slot will be looking for a response from his squad after suffering a 1-0 defeat by Preston in his first match, a friendly behind closed doors.

Yet the Dutchman has had to name a youthful 28-man squad with 11 senior players missing due to their holidays.

Key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Diogo Jota are missing after their involvement in Euro 2024.

There will also be no Joe Gomez, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, or Ibrahima Konate after they went deep in the tournament with England, the Netherlands, and France.

Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz are absent due to playing in the Copa America.

While first-teamers such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Dominik Szoboszlai will be going, it means there is a great opportunity for a plethora of youngsters to prove themselves.

Ben Doak, Viteslav Jaros, James McConnell, Luke Chambers, Marcelo Pitaluga, Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck, Amara Nallo, Lewis Koumas, Tyler Morton, Harvey Blair, Luca Stephenson, Harvey Davies and Trey Nyoni will all be vying for minutes.

Their first assignment will be against Real Betis on Saturday at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, which can hold 68,400 fans.

On August 1 they will go toe-to-toe with Arsenal at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, which can hold 67,594 fans.

Their final test in the USA will see them take on Manchester United at the Williams Brice Stadium in Pittsburgh, with a capacity crowd of 77,559.

There will also be a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on August 11, their final match before taking on Ipswich in their Premier League season opener at Portman Road on August 17.
