Liverpool star joins up with international team despite injury concern

A Liverpool star has linked up with his national side despite having been a major injury doubt.

It was initially expected that the player would be ruled out of the upcoming round of international fixtures.

He was doubtful as a result of a recently sustained groin problem but is now set to represent his country.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot had been unsure of the severity of the issue following his side's win over Crystal Palace

Alexis Mac Allister was withdrawn at half time against Palace due to injury, with Dominik Szoboszlai replacing him.

As reported by Mundo Albiceleste, however, Mac Allister has arrived with the Argentina squad in Miami ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Argentina face Venezuela away on Thursday before hosting Bolivia on October 16.

After the game against Palace, Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted that he was unsure whether Mac Allister would link up with the Argentina squad.

Argentina are top of the CONMEBOL qualifying table having won six and lost two of their eight games so far.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Slot said: 'He went off because of an injury. But how bad it is, that's difficult for me to judge in this moment.

'He could have continued playing, like you saw because it didn't happen a second before half-time.

'But he felt it a bit too much and said, 'I don't think it's good to keep on playing, because you never know if I'll make it worse'.

'Now, what is the exact situation, can he go to Argentina, can he play over there? That's difficult for me to tell you now.

'No, I don't think [it was his hip]. Groin area I think.'

Mac Allister has scored three goals in 33 appearances for Argentina and was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 2022 and the Copa America this year.

The 25-year-old's importance to Liverpool is underlined by the fact that he has started all seven of the club's Premier League games so far this season.

Liverpool suffered a more significant injury blow against Palace, with goalkeeper Alisson going off with a suspected hamstring problem that could keep him out for several weeks.
