Lucas Digne denies he is joining Galatasaray despite viral document

Lucas Digne was involved in a bizarre online exchange with a journalist as he denied agreeing a move to Galatasaray, before a document suggested negotiations were ongoing.

Social media is a hub of transfer speculation all-year round with many fans using platforms like X as the go-to destination for news on potential incomings and departures as clubs negotiate back-and-forth.

However, players with online profiles don't typically respond to rumours and when they do it's usually to refute speculation, as was the case with Villa full-back Digne.

The 31-year-old has two years remaining on his existing contract at Villa Park and is the subject of interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray who have made a habit of trying to lure Premier League stars to the nation.

Journalists with inside knowledge of a potential transfers often share information to avid followers on social media platforms, with Turkish reporter Yagız Sabuncuoglu sharing an update with his over 1million X followers on Wednesday.

Lucas Digne was involved in a bizarre online exchange with a Turkish journalist claiming he is set to join Galatasaray

Purporting to confirm advancements in Galatasaray's attempts to secure Digne's signature, Sabuncuoglu claimed that the Frenchman had agreed personal terms with the club.

'Galatasaray reached an agreement with Lucas Digne and made an official offer to Aston Villa. Cenk Ergun started talks with Monchi,' he said in an update.

But, Digne was quick to deny the statement and quickly responded with a four-word answer where he stated: 'Sorry but no true' alongside three laughing face emojis.

That was expected to be the end of the matter as media outlets trusted what the former Everton star's reply, only for Sabuncuoglu to send social media wild by posting a picture of a seemingly confidential document of a proposed loan move for Digne.

The apparently official letter appears to set out the the details of a season-long loan with no fee being offered to Villa for Digne's services.

Galatasaray have however allegedly offered to cover the entirety of Digne's salary and asked Villa's representatives if they could have permission to open direct talks with the player.

The bizarre revelation gives a rare insight into the world of football negotiations, with the hilarious exchange between Digne and Sabuncuoglu so far being viewed over 10million times.
