Man City 1-1 Man United (7-6 on pens): City triumph on penalties

Manchester City got their campaign off to a winning start with victory on penalties over Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley.

The Premier League champions opted for youth in the starting line-up, with four academy graduates named in Pep Guardiola's starting XI.

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the first half, with City youngster James McAtee coming closest as his curling effort struck the bar.

Bruno Fernandes looked to have broken the deadlock in the second half as he curled a beautiful strike beyond Ederson before his effort was ruled out for offside.

United looked the more likely to score after the interval and Garnacho stepped up when it counted, cutting inside before giving his side the lead.

United looked to have secured the win before Bernardo Silva headed home from a Oscar Bobb cross in the final minute of normal time.
