Man United 'identify Inzaghi as potential replacement for ten Hag'

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi is reportedly being considered by Manchester United as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Although the Dutchman remains in charge for now, there have been indications that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will assess the situation during the international break later this month.

As reported by The Daily Star, Inzaghi, who has been in charge of Inter since 2021, is one of the options that United could turn to if Ten Hag is sacked.

Last season Inzaghi guided Inter to the Serie A title, while he has also won the Coppa Italia twice and his side reached the Champions League final in 2023, where they lost to Manchester City.

Inzaghi could potentially replace Erik ten Hag, whose future is uncertain amid poor form

He was previously in charge of Lazio, with whom he won the Coppa Italia in the 2018-19 campaign.

The report suggests that former England boss Gareth Southgate is another potential option for United.

Southgate has been away from management since his departure from the England job following the defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Ten Hag signed a contract extension in the summer off the back of United's FA Cup success.

However, United have continued to lack consistency and are currently in 13th place in the Premier League having taken just seven points from their first six games.

According to Goal, it would cost United £17.5million to look for a new manager following ten Hag's contract extension.

Ten Hag has insisted that he isn't worried about his future but he has come in for a considerable amount of criticism from pundits and supporters.

Gary Neville, for instance, branded United's display against Tottenham as 'disgusting' and 'an absolute disgrace'.

'For United, the big story today is in that first half they have chosen to put in the very worst possible performance.

'It was an absolutely disgusting performance in that first half in effort, quality, everything you would want from a football team. Questions are going to be asked of that manager and the team.

'It's not as bad as I initially thought but it sums up United in the first half who have been an absolute disgrace.

'Probably one of the worst halves I've seen under Ten Hag and that's saying something.

'[Ten Hag] can't believe what he's watching. I can't believe what I'm watching, it's awful. It really is bad.

'I'm not even talking about scoring goals, I'm talking about the basics. They look shot to pieces, the lot of them.'
