Man United's Harry Maguire 'hit with fine after being caught speeding'

According to The Sun, Maguire, 31, committed the offence while driving his black Land Rover on the afternoon of March 7, having been clocked going 68mph in a 60mph zone on the A616 near his home city of Sheffield.

Maguire pleaded guilty to the charge at the first opportunity, meaning he was not required to attend court.

His case was processed on Monday at Sheffield Magistrates' Court and he was ordered to pay a fine of £670, plus a £268 victim subcharge and £90 in legal fees, taking the total cost to £1,208. Maguire also had three points added to his driver's licence.

The England international was caught speeding just two days before missing United's 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

He was unable to make the matchday squad, but did play during the international break against Brazil the following week before returning for United at the end of March.

Maguire went on to suffer a muscle injury in early May and missed the final weeks of the season before being ruled out of Euro 2024.

He later described that period as the 'toughest moment of my career' having not played in United's FA Cup final triumph or in England's run to the Euros final before they were beaten by Spain.

Maguire has been in United's squad for all of their games so far this season and captained the team for their 7-0 Carabao Cup win against Barnsley last week.

However, he has lost his place in United's starting XI for their last three league matches, with Erik ten Hag preferring the centre back pairing of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

Mail Sport has reached out to Maguire's representatives for comment.
