Martin Odegaard undergoing further tests on ankle injury

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has required further tests on his injured ankle following an inconclusive scan on Tuesday.

There is hope, however, that the midfielder will not be a long-term absentee although the results of a scan he was due to undergo today should provide the full extent of the damage.

The Gunners are eager not to put a timescale on his recovery, although it is clear he is a doubt for Sunday's clash against arch-rivals Tottenham.

He underwent an initial scan upon his arrival but the original tests did not provide a clear diagnosis due to swelling round the joint.

He is a doubt for the north London derby against Tottenham, which will take place on Sunday

There is hope today's tests will provide definitive details of the injury.

The Norway team doctor Ole Sand has predicted the lay-off could be around three weeks.

Sand said: 'Such ankle injuries often take at least three weeks. Anything other than that is just a bonus. And then it can take longer.

'What we have so far obtained from the MRI examination in London is that there is probably no fracture in the ankle.'
