Martinez says there's no doubt Cristiano Ronaldo play against Scotland

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could be rested for Tuesday's Nations League clash with Scotland.

Ronaldo, who turns 40 in February, scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over Poland before being substituted on the 63-minute mark.

There have been suggestions that he could be given the night off in Glasgow due to his age but Martinez has made it clear he expects him to be involved.

'I think the age of a player doesn't come to play,' he said at a press conference on Monday.

'Ronaldo doesn't work as a 39-year-old player. He doesn't play certainly as a 39-year-old player. I think we are assessing every player and how they feel.

Roberto Martinez (L) says fans should expect Cristiano Ronaldo (R) to feature against Scotland

'Cristiano has been working really well in this camp. I think the difficulty of playing two games away from home is more how can you prepare between the two games. How can you recover with the players?'

He added: 'But I have no doubt that Cristiano after 60 minutes can be involved in the second game.

'I don't know if he can start or if he can finish the game. But he can certainly be involved as he showed in the last camp.'

Portugal have won all three of their games in Group 1 with Ronaldo scoring in each game.

They sit top of the group with nine points, three clear of second-placed Croatia.

Ronaldo's goal against Poland took his tally for the national team up to 133.
