Mason Mount reveals he will be out for 'a few games' with a new injury

Mason Mount admitted he is ‘frustrated’ to be facing another lay-off after suffering a muscle injury in Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton last weekend.

Mount did not reappear for the second half at the Amex Stadium with manager Erik ten Hag confirming afterwards that the player’s withdrawal was forced by the injury problem, adding that ‘we know the history of Mason’.

Mount made just 20 appearances in his first season at United – including five Premier League starts – following a £60million move from Chelsea mainly due to a calf injury which kept him out of action for four months.

Given that the Premier League heads into a two-week international break after United’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, Mount missing several games suggests he will be out for a number of weeks.

He confirmed the news on social media, saying: ‘During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue. I've had it checked and it looks like I'll be out for a few games.

‘Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.

'I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.'
