Mikel Arteta hints Arsenal suffered 'serious injury' in Man City draw

Mikel has hinted that Arsenal may have suffered a serious injury during their 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

The Gunners played the entire second-half with 10 men, with Leandro Trossard shown a red with his side 2-1 after Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel cancelled out Erling Haaland's early opener.

However, John Stones ensured the points were shared at the Etihad with a last-ditch strike having come off the bench in the latter minutes of the match.

Arsenal were accused of 'dark arts' after Jurrien Timber, Calafiori, David Raya and Gabriel had all gone down in the second-half, with the former two replaced after picking up knocks.

However, Arteta says there's a serious cause for concern with one of his players, and revealed 'a few' will be unavailable for their Carabao Cup third round tie against Bolton.

Mikel has hinted that Arsenal may have suffered a serious injury during their draw at Man City

'Tomorrow you will find out. As soon as I give the line up,' the Spaniard said when asked who will miss out during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Pressed on whether one of his players sustained a serious injury against City, Arteta added: 'We have to wait [on] one of them.'

Mail Sport revealed Raya was hobbling afterwards with a bandage on his right knee. It's understood that the knock is not serious, though the Spaniard is likely to be rested on Wednesday.

Timber and Calafiori were both forced off in the second -half at the Etihad, but the former provided a positive update on his fitness.

'It's been a long time since I've played so many games, especially in seven days, so that's really good,' he said.

Meanwhile Ben White replaced Calafiori despite not starting the match due to a fitness issue.

'He will run through a brick wall for you and the intention was to try not to use him today, but we had to and I'm very grateful because he performed very well,' Arteta said after the match.

A fresh injury would come as a serious injury to Arsenal with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko already sidelined.
