Oasis will cast no shadow over the Etihad Stadium, with an ongoing expansion of Manchester City’s ground ending any hopes the reformed band will play there next summer.
Instead, City fanatics Noel and Liam Gallagher, who announced that they had got the group back this morning, will head to the city’s sprawling Heaton Park for a series of gigs.
With widespread rumours of a revival swirling for months, the Etihad had been named as a frontrunner to host a number of dates.
But Mail Sport understands that a vast, ongoing project that will raise the capacity of the stadium to 61,000 and include a 400-bed hotel, will not be completed by the time the Burnage brothers hit the stage.
Work has already started at the Etihad. City’s north stand will be expanded with a single upper tier which will include a sky bar with views overlooking the pitch, a stadium roof walk experience and a covered fan zone with food and drink outlets and room for 3,000. A new club shop, museum and hotel will also feature.

The north stand itself will open during next season, while the hotel and other works are pencilled in to be completed by 2026 as part of a £300m investment.
Oasis, who split in 2009, will play four times at Heaton Park and Wembley with shows in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin completing the 16-date schedule. Further events in Europe may be added at a later date.
Both brothers are ardent City fans with Noel regularly spotted at home and away matches.
