Okta expands Auth0 capabilities to enhance scalability and security for developers

Identity access management company Okta Inc. today announced that it’s expanding the capabilities of Auth0 and the Okta Customer Identity Cloud to give developers more scalability, security and customization.

The updates announced today include a more robust Auth0 free plan, which now allows up to 25,000 monthly active users, passwordless login options and unlimited social and Okta connections. Additionally, the free plan includes support for custom domains to help developers build branded, seamless user experiences from the start.

Paid plans now offer enterprise-level security with multifactor authentication, enhanced log retention and support for system for cross-domain identity management, or SCIM.

The releases seek to address the issue wherein traditional identity threats are being bolstered by artificial intelligence advances that enable low-quality, high-intensity attacks to become more dangerous and help new, personalized attacks to emerge. Okta argues that with bots making up nearly 50% of all internet traffic, developers are struggling to secure their applications in this landscape.

The expanded free plan gives developers stronger authentication mechanisms, enabling Auth0 advances, including passwordless, to be implemented earlier in the application development lifecycle. For software-as-a-service builders, Okta now includes Pro MFA and Enterprise MFA in all paid-tier plans to help embed security in an affordable and scalable way.

Auth0’s free and paid plans have been enhanced with several key features, including unlimited Okta Social Connections to enable secure access through 70 social login providers while gathering up-to-date user information without compromising the experience. Additionally, unlimited Okta Connections streamline integration with Okta Workforce Identity Cloud to simplify user access.

Other updates include added Okta Organizations that allow for better management of partners and customers in business-to-business applications, along with additional Actions + Forms to extend identity flows with a visual editor. Support for Custom Domains also helps create a seamless branded experience by replacing Okta’s domain name with a custom one, ensuring a more consistent user interface.

“Developers are grappling with greater demand to rapidly deploy applications while facing increasingly sophisticated AI-powered bot attacks to defend against,” said Shiven Ramji, president of Customer Identity Cloud at Okta. “To help them stay ahead of these threats and grow their businesses, developers require solutions that can take care of identity and security for them.”

“By making more Auth0 capabilities available at no added cost, developers can build secure apps from the start and feel confident in their ability to scale alongside significant user growth,” Ramji added.
