P0 Security raises $15M to enhance identity governance and access management

Secure cloud access startup P0 Security Inc. today announced that it has raised $15 million in new funding to scale up its go-to-market and engineering teams.

Founded in 2022, P0 Security offers a unified identity governance and administration and privileged access management platform designed to help security engineers secure cloud access and entitlements for their developers. The product can be used to identify which cloud identities — human or machine — have privileged access, with support for granular, just-in-time and short-lived privileged access granting.

P0 Security argues that legacy approaches to access governance and identity security that rely on network boundaries are ineffective in today’s cloud-native environment. There’s an explosion of cloud resources, data locations and identities that are exponentially expanding access paths to sensitive data and critical infrastructure.

The company addresses the rapid expansion of cloud resources, data locations and identities with a solution that governs and secures human and machine cloud identities in one unified platform.

Offering agentless architecture, the P0 Security platform can be deployed in minutes to provide security teams complete visibility and control into who or what is accessing cloud resources. Organizations using the platform can manage the access lifecycle for developers and nonhuman identities using developer-friendly workflows, according to the company.

Features include the ability to determine which identities have excessive and possibly dangerous permissions to sensitive cloud resources such as virtual machines, storage buckets, cloud services and production Kubernetes clusters. Security engineers can use P0’s dashboard to rightsize roles and permissions for all identities and identify attack paths to critical resources.

Though relatively young, P0 Security has grown its customer base to include technology and financial services companies. Notable customers include Afresh Technologies Inc., Divvy Payments Inc., Level AI Inc., Applied Intuition Inc. and Hyperplane.

The Series A round was led by SYN Ventures LP, with Zscaler Inc. and Lightspeed Venture Partners also participating. SYN Ventures Operating Partner Ryan Permeh is joining P0 Security’s board.

“P0 Security is a natural fit for the SYN portfolio,” Permeh said. “With an incredible track record of success from leaders like Splunk, Cisco and Semgrep, the P0 team is the first to tackle a critical business need with a 100% cloud-focused, unified platform for governing access for both human and nonhuman identities.”

Including the new funding, P0 Security has raised about $20 million to date, the last round, for $5 million, in November 2023.
