Turns out the striker, like the rest of us, whiled away many a misspent hour playing the hit video game Call of Duty and he was not the only one.

When asked who he would include in his dream team on the game, he said: 'Wayne Bridge...I wouldn't have Joe Cole on my team because I'm not sure if he's a gamer enough, he's more of an outdoorsy type.

'I'm trying to think - Tom Huddlestone was good back in the day, Jermaine Pennant was good...there's a few out there.

'I imagine the youngsters out there are a different level.

'I actually tried to get my kids into it. I'd rather that than the iPad or YouTube which feels a bit monotonous for them.'

Crouch's obsession with Call of Duty all came to a head, however, when wife Abbey Clancy, who he married in 2011 shortly after the birth of their first child, called the police when he locked himself in a room for hours playing it.

The former Portsmouth forward said: 'Abbey banned me from Call of Duty, I used to love it. Why was that?'

The model told the show: 'Because I was locked out of my house once for four hours while Pete was in the cinema room locked in, in the pitch black, with the headphones on to the point where I was calling the police.
