Pixel Watch 3: Two Sizes, More Running Features video

Google is finally giving us a bigger size option on the pixel watch three. There's now a 45 millimeter version for larger wrists and people who just want a bigger screen plus the original 41 millimeters. The same as the pixel watch one and two. The case may have grown but the bezels have shrunk. Google says the 41 millimeter version has 10% more screen than earlier versions. The brightness now reaches a maximum 2000 knits. That's the same as the Galaxy Watch seven and Apple Watch series nine. And it can go down to to one knit in dark environments. What else is new running features, more remote control options from your wrist. And of course A I the pixel watch three is Android only and works with a Fitbit app where you'll see all of your metrics from sleep steps and workouts. If you wear your watch to bed, you'll now get a new morning brief on the screen that summarizes your health and fitness stats or it will show if anything is out of range runners in particular are getting a lot of attention this time around because you can now build your own workouts, add segments or intervals in the Fitbit app and then send it straight to your watch during workouts. The pixel watch three will also give you real time guidance on things like pace so it can buzz or give you an audio alert if you are over or under your target. This is new for the pixel watch but not new for other smart watches. The Apple Watch and Galaxy watch have done running coaching and pace alerts for quite a while. Now, the Fitbit readiness score takes your sleep activity and heart rate data to give you a score out of 100 which can help determine if you should take it easy or you, you can do that workout. Now, previously on pixel watches, you'd need the $10 a month Fitbit premium subscription to see this score, but it's now available to all users with a pixel watch three. And Google says that this score has been tweaked to be more accurate than before. There's also now something called a cardio load rating which is geared towards more serious athletes and similar to what some other sports watchers like polar measure. Basically, it's tracking your heart rate throughout the day and your intensity during your workouts to show you how hard your heart is working. You can use it to see if you are under or over training and you'll get a target cardio load each day. Google also claims this is its most accurate watch yet for running. Even though it does use the same heart rate sensor as the pixel watch two. It's using new algorithms to get more accurate results. Stay tuned because you know, I will be putting that claim to the test Fitbit premium opens up some extra features on this watch including customized run recommendations using A I. Of course, it's taking that cut a load score, the readiness score and past run data to give you advice on what to do each day. Plus tips on your form. I'm really interested to see how this works when I get to try it in person to see if it's any different from what Fitbit premium already does with customized workout recommendations. And the pixel watch three will come with a six month trial of Fitbit premium. Then you can decide if you do want to pay for that subscription moving forward. Now taking a leaf out of the Fitbit charge six as playbook, you'll now be able to use the pixel watch as a heart rate monitor and connect to gym equipment from brands like Nordic Track and Peloton and in terms of other smart features, they're really just bringing the pixel watch in line with functionality already offered by competitors like the Galaxy Watch and the Apple watch. On the I OS side, you can see the live view from a nest cam and use two way talk or you can use a remote app on your wrist to control a Google TV. If you have a pixel phone, you'll also be able to control the camera including trigger those astrophotography and night modes. And you can use the same call screening features from a pixel phone on your wrist. Google is claiming the pixel watch three can last up to 24 hours with the always on display and regular use or 36 hours on a charge with battery saver mode. Of course. Super intrigued to see if we actually reach that number because in my testing with that other new WE OS five watch the Galaxy Watch seven and Galaxy Watch Ultra, I did not meet Samsung's battery life claims and know that the pixel watch three and the Galaxy Watch seven and Ultra are running the same OS we're OS five, the 45 millimeter pixel watch three has a larger capacity battery than the smaller version that makes sense. It's 420 milliamp hours compared to 306 on the 41 millimeter. And a small detail that I'm personally very excited about is the addition of UWB or ultra wideband. So this is primarily gonna be used for digital car keys. But I'm really hoping it's going to help boost find ability in Google's find my devices out. The larger watch comes in three colors, matte black Polish silver or Matt hazel and it starts at $400 for the Wi Fi model and 500 for LTE. If you're following along at home, that is $70 more than the retail price of the Galaxy watch seven in the largest size. The small is in black, silver and gold and costs $350 for Wi Fi and $450 for the LTE version. We'll have lots more on the pixel watch three really soon, including a full review and comparisons with other major smart watches. So stay tuned to CNET for more. See ya.
