Player is SENT OFF for decking goalkeeper after piggy in the middle

Folkestone Invicta striker Tom Derry was sent off in bizarre circumstances during a non-league clash on Saturday.

With the hosts 2-0 down against Billericay Town in an Isthmian Premier League clash, play was suspended as a player received medical treatment on the pitch.

Seemingly intent on getting the action back underway, Derry attempted to retrieve the ball whilst Billericay goalkeeper Sam Donkin performed kick-ups.

As Derry looked to grab the ball, Donkin and defender Matt Johnson engaged in an impromptu game of piggy in the middle, leaving an increasingly frustrated Derry stranded.

Derry then charged into the goalkeeper and knocked him to the ground before wrestling the ball out of his hands.

The official clearly took a dim view of the situation and promptly showed the striker a straight red card to the delight of the travelling fans.

A clip of the incident has since gone viral on social media, with one video of the incident gaining more than 2.5million views on X.

One fan wrote: 'Hahahah proper 10/10 s*** housery this. Fair play to the defender and the keeper

Another added: I dont even think it was the kick that got him sent off, it was grabbing him when he was on the floor and shaking him that did it LMAO

A third wrote: 'of all the ways to get sent off for violent conduct, this is definitely one of them'

Things would only go from bad to worse for Folkestone after Derry's sending off as Ibrahim Jalloh netted in the closing stages to seal the win.

Derry could now face a three-match ban after seeing red for violent conduct.
