Premier League star reveals he 'almost died' after medical emergency

A Premier League star has revealed that he recently suffered a medical emergency while travelling for international duty.

Julio Enciso appeared as a second-half substitute as Brighton battled back from a two-goal deficit to claim all three points against Tottenham on Monday night.

Following the game the 20-year-old travelled to meet up with his Paraguay team-mates ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

However, whilst on the plane Enciso started to feel unwell and subsequently lost consciousness before a fellow passenger came to his rescue.

After meeting up with Gustavo Alfaro's squad ahead of their clash with Ecuador on Thursday, Enciso took to social media to detail his mid-air ordeal.

Julio Enciso has revealed he recently fainted on a plane while travelling for international duty

'My head hurts. I almost died, I fainted on the plane,' he said, per Sports Witness.

'I was powerless, I didn't eat or sleep well. At one point I got up to go to the bathroom and I felt like I was falling.

He added: 'A guy grabbed me and took me to the front; He made me drink Coke and a Japanese soup and that did me good.'

Enciso's countrymen will be hoping he has made a full recovery ahead of Thursday's showdown as Los Guaranies aim to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since 2006.

The revamped format will see six of ten sides in the CONMEBOL qualifiers earn passage to the tournament in 2026, with the team that finishes seventh earning a place in the inter-confederation play-offs.

After eight games Paraguay currently sit in the play-off spot but could move into the automatic places with a result against Ecuador.

Enciso has earned 19 caps for his country since making his senior international debut aged just 17 and netted his first goal in their defeat by eventual finalists Colombia in the 2024 Copa America.
