Punter walks away with over £16k after getting lucky with unusual bet

While Sunday's clash against Tottenham was one to forget for Erik ten Hag and his side, one punter will have been ecstatic with how events unfolded at Old Trafford.

After making a £10 stake with a mix of markets on the day's two Premier League fixtures, the lucky fan walked away with an eye-watering return of £16,400.

The first fixture involved was the 2pm kick-off that saw Aston Villa take on newly-promoted Ipswich at Portman Road.

Morgan Rogers was backed to score or assist against Kieran McKenna's side and promptly produced the goods, netting on 15 minutes to equalise after Liam Delap had fired the hosts in front.

The bet also needed two players to enter the referee's notebook during the game, and Lucas Digne and Jacob Greaves' second-half cautions put them right on track heading into the second game of the day.

With all eyes turned to the 4pm kick-off, Tottenham wasted little time in seizing the initiative against Erik ten Hag's side, as Brennan Johnson continued his hot streak to give the visitors the lead.

For the punter though, the action worth celebrating came in the 42nd minute as Diogo Dalot's yellow card for a challenge on Dejan Kulusevski completed the fourth selection of their six-fold.

Dominic Solanke's strike after 77 minutes to make it 3-0 sealed the win for both Ange Postecoglou and the lucky punter, but the real drama came in ticking off box No 5 earlier in the half.

The original selection called for Destiny Udogie to be shown a yellow card but the Italian defender was replaced at the break without having received a caution from referee Chris Kavanagh.

However, Paddy Power's Super Sub offer meant that the selection was transferred to his replacement Djed Spence, who duly received a yellow less than ten minutes after entering the pitch.

Paddy Power's Super Sub offer transferred the selection to the 24-year-old and he picked up a yellow to set up a £16,400 win

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: 'Yesterday was a red letter day for Paddy's punters. Not only did this plucky punter net £16.4k off the back of a tenner, but theirs was just one of a staggering 16k Super Sub bets that clicked yesterday.

'Destiny Udogie To Get Carded and to be the Player to Commit 1 or More Fouls respectively accounted for over 9,700 of the winning selections. Erik ten Hag isn't the only one licking his wounds today!'
